Sunday also saw the start of the Green Woods Country Club’s PGA Junior League Spring season. Our team traveled to take on the team from Goodwin Park in Hartford. The team is a bit inexperienced and took on a veteran squad, the result was 10.5 to 1.5, in favor of the hosts, four matches worth three points each. That’s OK, keeping swinging, we’ll get them next time.
What is the Junior PGA League about? From the PGA website:
“PGA Junior League Golf is designed to better socialize the game for boys and girls, ages 13 and under. PGA JLG features team vs. team competitions in structured leagues that provide a popular, less stressful scramble format as opposed to stroke-play competition. This is a great way to get kids involved in the game! ”
The League continues on Sunday afternoons at 3 PM until May 31st. Upcoming matches are against Tunxis, Copper Hill, and Farmington Woods. Additional players are welcome, check with Scott.
Our pictures feature Echo Mattiello, Jackson LaVertue, and Aidan O’Connor. Those swings look pure, who’s teaching those guys?
In other competition news involving the Green Woods CC family, Chris Salius and Adam Vaccari are coaching the Gilbert High School Golf Team. Joe (Mojo) Santoro is leading the Oliver Wolcott Tech golf squad. Todd Schaller shot a 78 on Monday at Wallingford Country Club to qualify for the CSGA 12th Russell Palmer Cup. Ken Williams posted a 76 to finish in a tie for 10th in the first CSGA One Day at the Country Club of Waterbury. If anyone else has some events to share, please keep us updated.
